THE DOMAIN

LE CHÂTEAU PEYCHAUD

Château Peychaud is a family-owned estate located in the commune of Ambarès-et-Lagrave, in the Bordeaux region of France. The estate comprises 28 hectares (69 acres) of vineyards and 25 hectares (62 acres) of classified parkland.

The château was built in the 17th century by the Marquis de Fayet, then Counselor to the Bordeaux Parliament and ancestor of the current owner. It is a characteristic example of the grand style residences of the Bordeaux region and boasts a remarkable location, as it stands on the tip of the Entre-Deux-Mers terrace, exactly halfway between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers.

"La Presqu'Ile": A Major Player in Bordeaux Wines

In the heart of the Presqu’Ile, between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, the vineyards of Château Peychaud are one of the last remaining vestiges of what was once a very large vineyard.

From the middle of the 18th century, the lands stretching from Lormont to Saint-Louis-de-Montferrand in fact provided 11% of the harvest of Bordeaux vineyards, placing it in third position, just behind those of Médoc and Graves.

The original riverside cellars allowed for all reception and direct shipping by water until the 19th century.

A variety of terroir ...

On the eastern side of the estate, on Graves land, and on the western side, on Garonne alluvial soil, the three main Bordeaux grape varieties planted at Peychaud thrive on diverse soils that give the wines remarkable complexity and expression of fruit.

The Merlot contributes its charm, generosity, and roundness. The Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine its tannic structure, aging potential, and elegant aromas of red and black fruits. As for the Cabernet Franc, it completes the final blend with a delicate bouquet of red berries.

The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and especially its estuary, the Gironde, provides beneficial protection against temperature extremes and promotes gradual grape ripening.
