Château Peychaud is a family-owned estate located in the commune of Ambarès-et-Lagrave, in the Bordeaux region of France. The estate comprises 28 hectares (69 acres) of vineyards and 25 hectares (62 acres) of classified parkland.
The château was built in the 17th century by the Marquis de Fayet, then Counselor to the Bordeaux Parliament and ancestor of the current owner. It is a characteristic example of the grand style residences of the Bordeaux region and boasts a remarkable location, as it stands on the tip of the Entre-Deux-Mers terrace, exactly halfway between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers.
In the heart of the Presqu’Ile, between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, the vineyards of Château Peychaud are one of the last remaining vestiges of what was once a very large vineyard.
From the middle of the 18th century, the lands stretching from Lormont to Saint-Louis-de-Montferrand in fact provided 11% of the harvest of Bordeaux vineyards, placing it in third position, just behind those of Médoc and Graves.
The original riverside cellars allowed for all reception and direct shipping by water until the 19th century.
Our grape varieties grow on varied soils of gravel and alluvium that give the wines remarkable complexity and expression of fruit.
Charm and roundness for the Merlot; fruitiness, elegance and structure for the Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet Franc will complete the blend with delicate notes of small red fruits.
The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and especially its Gironde estuary, provides beneficial protection against excessive temperatures and encourages the gradual ripening of the grapes.
The vineyards of Château Peychaud are part of a unique natural environment composed of meadows, farmland, a forest and marshes that are home to a varied and preserved fauna.
The park planted more than a century ago includes multiple varieties such as acacias, lime trees, umbrella pines, cedars of Lebanon, cypresses, oaks without forgetting the majestic liquidambar in the center of the meadow.
